Beam steering is accomplished in radio and radar systems by optimizing the phase and delay of the RF signals driving the elements to obtain the required beam pattern. A similar technique is used when synchronizing multiple silent anti-hail guns to steer the beam and thus the pressure wave in the correct direction.
